Mohammad Hosseini, the vice president for Parliament Affairs, made the remarks at the 4th International Conference on American Human Rights in Tehran on Tuesday night.
“The fact that we do not reach a quick conclusion has its roots in Americans’ extravagant spirit and if the Islamic Republic is seeking a negotiation, in fact, it is for lifting sanctions,” Hosseini noted.
The US tore apart the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and withdrew from the accord, he said, adding that Washington apparently did not abide by its commitments under the deal when it was a signatory to the JCPOA and now, it is seeking to return to the agreement without giving any guarantees while it continues its behaviors.
The American authorities do not want to give assurances that they will even stop changing their promises or they will not resume the removed sanctions, the Iranian official said, noting that the Americans do not want to guarantee that they will abide by their commitments, so it is obvious in such a situation that if the Islamic Republic enters any talks, the negotiation is for lifting anti-Iran sanctions and the result should maintain Iranian people’s economic interests.
Although the Islamic establishment does not wait for the results of the nuclear negotiations, it pursues the policy of expanding relationships with neighboring states and other nations in order to change the circumstances, he argued.
In fact, the Islamic Republic refuses to accept begging diplomacy just as the US and Europe wish, Hosseini said, emphasizing that Iran follows up its own policy based on dignity and honor.
Pointing to the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran has turned into a role model in West Asia and the whole world, he said that nowadays, different powers are emerging and the globe will not be a unipolar one.
Now countries one after another are getting freed from the Americans’ dominance and such a situation is a good opportunity for Iran, he said.
The Americans viewed themselves as the dominant power of the world and thought that they could determine which country can possess nuclear energy, he added.
The US is the only country in the world, which has used atomic bombs, he noted, arguing that the warmongering spirit is clearly seen in both Democrats and Republicans.
